Day 2

What I Actually Need

Today's Focus

Many of us are good at expressing frustration.

But it's much harder to say what we really need underneath it.

Behind many complaints, moments of disappointment, or times when we feel distant is often something much simpler: a need for more connection, support, understanding, affection, appreciation, or quality time.

Today is about moving away from blame and getting clear on what you really need.

Reflection Exercise

Think of one recent moment where you felt annoyed, distant, hurt, or disappointed.

Or simply think about something you often feel frustrated about in your relationship, and what you actually wish was different.

Then complete these two sentences:

• What I said, did, or showed was: ______

• What I actually needed was: ______

Try to translate the reaction into a genuine need.

For example:

"I was irritated that you came home late."

"You never spend time with me."

might become:

"I needed more consideration and communication."

"I miss feeling close to you."

Today's Connection Moment

Write your partner a small note.

  • thank you

  • appreciation

  • memory

  • something you value

Hide it somewhere they'll find it later:
on the bathroom mirror, in a bag, on a pillow, in the kitchen ...

Small gestures often create big moments of connection.

If You're Doing This On Your Own

Complete the exercise for yourself.

If it feels right, share your insight with your partner later.

If You're Doing This Together

Share your answers with each other.

Listen without defending, fixing, or explaining.

Simply try to understand.

Before Tomorrow

Pay attention to what helps you feel relaxed, open, and connected.

We'll explore that tomorrow.
